Speaking on behalf of the 45-member Council of Europe, Secretary General Walter
Schwimmer has expressed his sorrow and dismay at the plane crash in Bosnia and
Herzegovina, which claimed the life of the Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski.
"President Trajkovski was a man of peace and dialogue who succeeded in
restoring order after the armed clashes in 2001. His death is a great loss for
his country and for Europe, where he was appreciated as one of the most harmonious
leaders in the Balkans," said Mr Schwimmer.
President of the Parliamentary Assembly President Peter Schieder sent a letter
of condolences to the families of the victims and to the country's authorities.
"The Macedonian people have lost a loyal servant, and a man who did much
to maintain peace and the unity of his country," Council of Europe Parliamentary

REACTIONS AT THE TRAGIC DEATH OF MACEDONIAN PRESIDENT BORIS TRAJKOVSKI
EU Chairman, the Irish PM Bertie Ahern expressed his deepest sorrow for the
tragic death of the Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski assessing that he
gave great contribution for the peace in Macedonia.
Javier Solana, EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy
(CFSP), said "today is a very tragic day for the people of Macedonia and
for all Europeans. We all lost a great European politician and it will be very
difficult to fill his gap."
Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski together with eight other members, died
in a plane crash in Bosnia-Herzegovina early Thursday. Trajkovski was on the
way to attend an international investment conference in the western Bosnian
city of Mostar.
REACTION OF RUSSIAN PRESIDENT PUTIN ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
On occasion of the death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski, Russian
President Vladimir Putin sent a letter of condolences to Parliament Speaker
and acting President Ljupco Jordanovski.
The telegram reads, "Russia received the tragic news with deep sorrow".
Putin emphasizes the personal contribution of Trajkovski in the development
and strengthening of the Russian-Macedonian relations. The Russian President
emphasized that he had the honor to meet Trajkovski several times, whom he respected
very much.
Putin expressed deep sympathy to the Macedonian people, the relatives and friends
of the victims, Russian agency ITAR-TASS reports.
SCG PRESIDENT MAROVIK'S REACTION ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
President of Serbia and Montenegro (SCG) Svetozar Marovik stated that he was
shocked by the news on the tragic death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski
in an airplane crash at Stolac near Mostar.
"He was full of fresh ideas and optimism, which he transferred to all of
us. His departure is a great loss for Macedonia, but also for all of us who
cooperated with him in the building of new trust and cooperation in the region",
the announcement from the SCG President reads.
Marovik states that Trajkovski worked on the strengthening of peace, stability
and cooperation on the Balkans, that he gave huge contribution in the consolidation
of the situation in Macedonia and deeply believed that the Balkans can and must
be part of united Europe and a better place for living of all its citizens.
"I frequently met President Trajkovski in the past years in Belgrade, Ohrid,
New York, at numerous conferences, and we understood each other very well. We
had similar views on many issues regarding the bilateral relations and cooperation,
and I was glad to have cooperated with him", the announcement reads.
REACTIONS OF PRODI AND PATTEN ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
President of the European Commission Romano Prodi sent a note on occasion of
the tragic death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski.
"This is a sad day for Macedonia, which lost a very wise and moderate leader.
Sad day for the Balkans, which integration was his main concern. Sad day for
Europe, which lost a friend and supporter of tolerance that is the base of our
Union", Prodi's letter reads.
Euro-Commissioner of Foreign Affairs Chris Patten also sent a letter of condolences
on occasion of Trajkovski's tragic death.
"I am deeply shocked by the news of the death of President Trajkovski.
I closely cooperated with him during the crisis, which led to the signing of
the Ohrid Agreement and its implementation. He was much dedicated to his country
and a great friend of the European Union", the letter reads. "His
dedicated work has brought Macedonia closer to the European family", Euro-Commissioner
Patten states.
REACTIONS OF TONY BLAIR AND JACK SYRAW REGARDING PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI'S DEATH
The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, expressed condolences to the family
of the President of Macedonia, Boris Trajkovski, and to the Macedonian People.
Shortly afterwards, British Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, made the following
statement:
"I was deeply saddened to hear of the tragic death this morning of the
President of Macedonia in a plane crash. In 2001, President Trajkovski played
a key role in resolving the inter-ethnic conflict, which threatened Macedonia's
unity. Thanks to his efforts, Macedonia is firmly on the path to Euro-Atlantic
integration. The UK remains committed to helping Macedonia along this path.

REACTIONS OF MESIK AND SVILANOVIK ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
Addressing the European Parliament, Croatian President Stipe Mesik emphasized
that the death of Boris Trajkovski will have "political consequences"
to the region, reminding that he worked along with the Macedonian President
and the other presidents from the region on the program for stabilization and
reconciliation in Southeast Europe.
Mesik expressed his belief that this process, which included the Macedonian
President, will continue.
Foreign Minister of Serbia and Montenegro Goran Svilanovik also sent his condolences
to the Macedonian people and the family of President Boris Trajkovski.
Svilanovik emphasized that Trajkovski performed his duty in a difficult period,
giving a huge contribution to the stability of the region.
FM Svilanovik also expressed regret that the loss of President Trajkovski occurred
on the day when Macedonia's application for EU membership was to take place.
REACTION OF GREEK FM ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
Greek Foreign Minister Tassos Yanitzis expressed his deepest condolences on
occasion of the death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski.
"We are shocked by the tragic news on the airplane crash, in which the
Macedonian President and his collaborators were killed", Yanitzis telegram
reads.
The Greek FM expresses his deepest condolences from the Greek Government to
"the friendly people of our neighboring country and to the families of
the victims".
The telegram also states that Trajkovski's tragic death is a true loss for the
country and the Balkans, because it occurred in the time of intensive efforts
of the political forces in Macedonia for normalization of the political life
in the state.
REACTIONS OF BULGARIAN TOP STATE OFFICIALS ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
Bulgarian President Georgi Prvanov expressed his regret on occasion of the
death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski.
"Today, Macedonia lost its President, but also lost a man who was a personification
of the state's unity, who worked until the last day for its stabilization and
development, for accession in Euro-Atlantic institutions", Prvanov says.
On occasion of the death of President Trajkovski, Bulgarian Prime Minister Simeon
Saxe Coburg Gotha sent a letter of condolences to the families of President
Trajkovski and the members of his delegation.
Bulgarian Parliament Speaker Ognen Gerdjikov sent a letter of condolences to
his Macedonian counterpart Ljupco Jordanovski.

The Macedonian Embassy in Sofia will open a book of mourning on occasion of
the death of President Trajkovski.
REACTION OF EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
EU Special Representative to Macedonia Soren Jessen Petersen expressed deep
regret on occasion of the tragic death of President Boris Trajkovski and his
7-member entourage in an airplane crash near Mostar.
"It is particularly sad that this has happened on a day that Macedonia
should be celebrating as the country was going to apply for membership of the
European Union", the announcement reads.
"President Trajkovski played a crucial role in taking this country out
of the 2001 conflict and leading it forward towards Europe. His contribution
will be a permanent legacy on this journey towards Europe", Petersen states.

REACTION OF SERBIAN PRIME MINISTER ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
On behalf of the Serbian Government and on his own behalf, Serbian Prime Minister
Zoran Zivkovik sent a letter of condolences on occasion of the death of Macedonian
President Boris Trajkovski and the delegation members to Parliament Speaker
Ljupco Jordanovski.
"The death of President Trajkovski is a great loss for Macedonia and its
citizens, but also for Serbia and all Balkan countries, because we lost a great

REACTIONS OF TURKISH PRESIDENT AND PRIME MINISTER ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
Turkish President Ahmet Necdet Sezer expressed condolences to the family of
the President of Macedonia, Boris Trajkovski in regard to his tragic death.
"I was deeply saddened to hear on the tragic death of my dear friend Boris
Trajkovski. The death of the leader Trajkovski is a great loss for Macedonia
and international community also," Sezer wrote in his letter.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan also sent a letter of condolences

Israeli Ambassador to Macedonia, with head offices in Belgrade, Yafa Ben-Ari
expressed regret on the death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski and the
delegation members.
"I am very sad due to the tragic death of President Trajkovski and the
Macedonian officials", Ben-Ari emphasized.
She extended her condolences to the families of the victims and to the Macedonian

Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase sent a letter of condolences to Macedonian
Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski on occasion of the death of President Boris
Trajkovski.
"The tragic news about the airplane crash is a great shock for us",

Albanian President Alfred Moisiu expressed condolences on Macedonian President
Boris Trajkovski's death.
"Macedonian neighbors today lost an ally in the efforts for establishment
of good and clear relations in the region," Moisiu said.
"Thanks to President Trajkovski the diplomatic relations between Macedonia
and Albania were at a high level last year," Moisiu pointed out.
REACTIONS OF SLOVENIAN PRESIDENT AND FM ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
"I was deeply shocked by the news of the death of Macedonian President
Boris Trajkovski, who was Slovenia's friend, and whom I personally respected",
Slovenian President Janez Drnovsek stated on occasion of the death of President
Trajkovski.
Drnovsek, who ends his visit to Finland Thursday, emphasized that Trajkovski's
role in Macedonia was very significant especially during the conflict, when
the state was at the brink of a civil war.
Slovenian Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel stated that Trajkovski, whom he met
several days ago, was "the strongest element of stability in Macedonia",
stressing that this loss will be strongly felt.
Furthermore, Rupel expressed hope that Macedonia will hold its elections without
any difficulties, and that the President's death will not cause great consequences.
REACTIONS OF AUSTRIAN AND GERMAN TOP OFFICIALS ON TRAJKOVSKI'S DEATH
The Austrian and German Foreign Minister Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Joschka
Fischer expressed regret due to the death of President Boris Trajkovski, whose
plane crashed near Mostar Thursday.
The Austrian Foreign Minister estimated that Trajkovski was, "the guarantee
of the stability of his country, and in the wider region".
"He was the architect of the Ohrid Agreement, which ended the military
conflict in Macedonia in 2001. Since, Trajkovski pledged for reconciliation
between the two largest ethnic communities", Waldner stressed, adding that
Trajkovski was the President of all Macedonians, regardless of their ethnic
origin and religion.
She expressed hope that his death will not lead to the destabilization of Macedonia.
"I hope that the Government and the elected representatives will continue
on Trajkovski's road and will work on preservation of the country's stability.
The extremist forces should not use this tragic accident for their own goals.
EU must stand behind the democratic institutions in Macedonia in this difficult
stage", Waldner said.
In the letter sent to Boris Trajkovski's wife Vilma, German President Johannes
Rau stated that a "great statesman" left us, who was Rau's friend,
"tied by the joint Christian religion".
"The fact that Macedonia's population lives peacefully and the country
in on the road to Europe is his merit", Rau says.
In the letter sent to Macedonian Foreign Minister Ilinka Mitreva, her German
counterpart Joschka Fischer states, "Trajkovski is merited for the strengthening
of the internal peace and democratic institutions in Macedonia".
"Trajkovski wanted an open multiethnic society. His work was an example
for the Macedonian citizens, but also for the entire region", Fischer stated.
REACTIONS OF HOLKERI, SCHEFFER AND KWASNIEWSKI ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
UNMIK Head Harri Holkeri expressed regret on occasion of the death of Macedonian
President Boris Trajkovski and expressed his deepest condolences to his family.
"We are praying for the family of President Trajkovski and for Macedonia
to find strength to overcome this difficult period", Holkeri stressed.
NATO Secretary General Jaap De Hoop Scheffer expressed regret due to Trajkovski's

CANADIAN FOREIGN MINISTER EXPRESSED CONDOLENCES ON DEATH OF MACEDONIAN PRESIDENT
"Canadians are saddened to learn of President Trajkovski's untimely death.
He was a progressive leader and a champion of peace and tolerance in Macedonia,"
Canadian Foreign Ministry announced.
Foreign Affairs Minister Bill Graham extended condolences to the people of Macedonia
and the family of President Boris Trajkovski on their tragic loss.

political figure, wise leader, my personal friend - President of Macedonia Boris

A book of mourning has been opened in the Defense Ministry and the Army General
Staff, as well as in all army barracks throughout the country.
COMMITTEE ON RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES SENDS CONDOLENCES
We received the news of the plane crash, which claimed the life of President
Boris Trajkovski, with great sorrow and pain, reads the note of condolences
from the Committee for Relations with Religious Communities to the President's
Cabinet, the Evangelistic- Methodist Church in Macedonia and Trajkovski's family.
"President Trajkovski always showed interest for the religious differences
and worked on the strengthening of inter-religious cooperation, tolerance and
understanding, as well as inter-religious co-existence in Macedonia", the
note states.
CONDOLENCES FROM BAPTIST CHURCH ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
Christian Baptist Church "God's Voice" expresses its great regret
on the tragic and premature death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski.
"Macedonia lost a statesman, who gave a great contribution for peaceful
and stabile leading of our country in the period of great temptations in the
last few years", the message reads.
PARLIAMENT VICE-SPEAKERS SEND CONDOLENCES ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
"There is no consolation for the personal pain, but you should be proud
of having such a husband and a father, who we will remember as a good and honest
man, but also as patriot, who exercised huge efforts in bringing Macedonia closer
to EU and NATO", Parliament Vice-Speaker Liljana Popovska states in the
note of condolences sent to Trajkovski's family. Parliament Vice-Speaker Hisni
Shakiri also sent a telegram to President Trajkovski's wife and children.
Both officials sent notes of condolences to the families of the delegation members
and the pilots.
GEORGE BUSH'S STATEMENT ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT TRAJKOVSKI
On behalf of the American people, I express my deepest condolences to the family
of President Boris Trajkovski and the Macedonian people, US President George
Bush says in the statement on occasion of Trajkovski's death.
"Laura and I mourn for the death of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski,
a respected leader and friend of USA", Bush emphasizes in the statement.
"USA strongly supports the vision of President Trajkovski for multiethnic
democratic Macedonia, peaceful within and in peace with its neighbors on the
road to its accession in the transatlantic community", US President George
Bush says.
JORDANOVSKI AND MITREVA VISIT VILMA TRAJKOVSKA
Macedonian Parliament Speaker Ljupco Jordanovski and Foreign Minister Ilinka
Mitreva Friday visited Vilma Trajkovska, the wife of killed Macedonian President
Boris Trajkovski.
Jordanovski and Mitreva extended condolences to Trajkovska and the family.

Macedonian Center for International Cooperation (MCMS) extends condolences
for the tragic death of Boris Trajkovski, the President of the Republic of Macedonia,
his associates and the flight crewmembers.

ALI AHMETI EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO VILMA TRAJKOVSKA AND LJUPCO JORDANOVSKI
DUI leader Ali Ahmeti Saturday extended condolences to the wife of President
Boris Trajkovski, Vilma Trajkovska and Parliament Speaker Ljupco Jordanovski.
"With a broken heart and sorrow in my soul I am writing to you in these
sad moments for all of us. You and your children lost a husbund and father,
but we lost our President. Your family tragedy is ours, because President Trajkovski
was a man to whom we trusted, appreciated and respected as a President of us,
the citizens of Macedonia," Ahmeti says in his letter to Vilma Trajkovska.
"The tragic death of President Trajkovski deeply shocked us. It is a huge
lost for all of us, but I am convinced that we will strengthen the trust on
the way, which was led by him - a way to Macedonia's integration into the European
family," Ahmeti says in his letter to Jordanovski, extending condolences
to the families of other delegation's members and the pilots.

Heads of the missions of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia
and Montenegro Saturday visited Macedonian Embassy to London and extended condolences
on the occasion of President Boris Trajkovski's death.
Notes of condolences on the occasion of President's tragic death sent Lord Griffits,
Head of the Methodists churches in the regions of York and Hill in England,
Steward Bridges, as well as the first British Ambassador to Macedonia Tony Milson.

IVANOV SENDS NOTE OF CONDOLENCES TO MITREVA
Russian Foreign Minister Saturday sent a note of condolences on the occasion
of Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski's death to his Macedonian counterpart
Ilinka Mitreva.
"The death of President Trajkovski and the people who were with him is
a serious lost for your country. He performed an important role in strengthening
of the stability and security not only for Macedonia, but also for the Balkan
in general. He was respected in Russia due to his contribution in strengthening
and development of the friendly Russian-Macedonian relation," Ivanov says
in his note.
